Tip 3: Being IN Your Body

by Nov 4, 2024How To Like Your Body

If you’re new to this journey, we recommend you start HERE.

Glad you’re back! Let’s briefly reflect on Tip 2 and your memories from your favorite space. Did you notice any themes that could describe WHY it was your favorite?

Maybe some were about the way it was decorated, but more likely, it was your favorite because of what you DID and how you FELT when you were inside that space. If you remembered feeling comfortable, safe, creative, loved or just having fun, those feelings came from the experiences you had IN that space – not from just looking at the space.

With that in mind, we want you to begin thinking about all that you experience IN your BODY. We want you to begin seeing your body as your HOME – the space where you live and experience life.

Learning to be IN your body may feel abstract or “wooey,” but an easy first step is to simply notice physical sensations you experience.

When you allow yourself to FEEL things as you DO them, you are becoming more connected to your body – that’s an important step in this journey.

So here’s TIP 3: your ONE THING to do this week that will help you be IN your body:

Pick one very routine activity and try to really feel it. FEEL the experience IN your body as it happens.

For example, the shower is a great place to do this…

Feel the warm water on your skin.

Close your eyes, plug your ears, and listen to how it sounds as it hits your head.

Breathe in the warm steam.

Notice the scent of your soap or shampoo.

Trace the feeling of the water running down your back and legs.

Let your body relax and feel the pull of gravity toward the shower floor.

When you pause to FEEL things, you are learning to be IN your body and IN the moment, rather than staying in your head and ruminating on the past or thinking about your to do list.

The more we take time to be IN our body, the more connected we will become to our body.

Give it a try.
