Learning about your ancestors can be a fun way to link yourself to the bigger world and even the distant past. Although some people can trace their families through generations and far away lands, others may not know much about where or whom they came from. Either way, you probably have some physical traits that are similar to your genetic relatives (which are your ancestors...whether you know them or not!).

Do you have the “family nose”? How about your grandmother’s eyes? Your cousin's legs? And did you ever think about the family “hairy-ness”?

As your body journeys through puberty, all that new hair sprouts in new places because of some new hormones called androgens. But your ancestors also...

Puberty is inevitable, but every girl has a unique experience and handles it in her own way. You can help make it a positive experience by helping your daughter know what to expect and reassuring her that some of the weirdness is actually normal!

To help her (and you) know what’s coming, here’s a brief overview of “the order of things”

  • Remember that one side usually buds first as a hard, sometimes tender, knot under the areola. The other side will bud within a short time usually, but sometimes it takes up to 6 months.
