Thanks to Greenville, SC, artist Sally Smith, Gina the Vulva will be starring in a Girlology program near you. Sally is responsible for sewing Girlology’s anatomy props — most notably, the uterus and vulva puppets that often help set a free-spirited tone for our programs.
“I love the idea of a cringe-free environment for preteens to learn about the ‘special seasons’ of their development,” she says. “Besides, I couldn't resist the chance to tell people that I make body parts — especially these body parts! I love to shake things up a little and hear people laugh.”
Sally began her seamstress career at the age of seven and grew up idolizing award-winning costume designers Edith Head and Cecil Beaton. Later, she designed costumes for Off-Broadway productions and then fine jewelry for a company in Charleston. Most recently she started her own business, The Christmas Belle, which specializes in heirloom quality Christmas tree skirts, stockings, décor and gifts.
When she’s not working her magic with fabric, she likes drawing, walking, studying antiques, road-tripping and hanging with her rescue dogs, Rascal and Cocoa. You can soon find Sally’s elegant designs at www.thechristmasbelle.com.
